| Ride or Gardening??? - 3/29/2009 - Back to Top |
It is going to be a beautiful day today. Us boys want to go for a ride, but the Ol' Draggon (my wife) wants to do spring clean-up! She wanted to stay home and trim trees and bushes, pick up tumble weeds, sprinkle pull weeds....boring! She knew that us boys wanted to ride, by the look in our eyes! Go - Go - Go, she said! Hmmm....what a decission, ride or gardening. Yeah, a ride with my boys! What an awsome day we had! A little chilly, but a great ride with my two boys. Wow, there were a lot of bikes out. We decided to head up to our local motocross track, where they were having vintage moto-cross races. Best of both worlds. There were bikes galore there, I was in two of my favorite worlds, riding with my kids and vintage motorcyles. Safe Riding! |

| Spring is almost here....... - 3/14/2009 - Back to Top |
Well, Mr. Weatherman said it was going to be 55 degrees today, and rain/snow tomorrow. That is spring in Idaho. Well, the 55 degree threat broght the bikes out today. We live on one of the main roads that goes from the Interstate/town to the river, the Owyhee desert, and just a great ride. When the weather is nice, our ride is like its own little interstate with bikes. One right after another heading south for the day. My son, Ben, with the new Warrior called me, Dad, lets go for a ride! He just got his bike insured and registered, so he was itchin' to get on it and ride. I was up for it! Went out to the garage to unearth the Harley. Dead battery! Trickle charger, no luck. Finally I got it started, aired up the back tire, ran it up and down the road for a while, and turned it off to see if it would start again. No such luck! I think I need a new battery - that means no ride for me today. I called Ben, told him I couldn't go. He was disappointed, but then called a couple of buddies, they were up for a ride. Off they went! I just got a call from him, "Dad, you missed a great ride. We went about 125 miles." Man, I wish I would have got off my butt a few weeks ago and serviced my bike so I could ride with him today. There will be more times this summer. Spring fever is setting in. I can tell spring fever is setting in with most of my customers, ordering leather chaps and coats. Lets Ride! |

| We are complete! - 1/25/2009 - Back to Top |
Can't wait for spring! Still a little cold, here in Idaho. Another new inch of snow this morning, so we aren't quite feeling safe on two wheels, yet. Lots of sand from the sanding trucks, and my wife, well, she is a fair weather rider. She is still really excited to try out her new leather jacket, but she isn't ready to break out her half helmet, she will be in her full face until well into the summer. We are enjoying our snowmobiles, but are now more excited than ever about riding our Harley.
Well, the reason I am so excited is that our oldest son, Ben (24) just bought a road bike. His new baby is a Road Warrior. He has eyed this bike since last fall, saved every penny he made. He had a focus, he had a goal, and reached it a couple of weeks ago. The minute had that last dollar in his envelope, he called me, and asked if I could bring the trailer, and help him pick up his new bike.
Ben isn't new at riding; he has been riding dirt bikes since he was about 7. He has raced desert, motocross and flat track. He did have a Triumph while he was in college in Phoenix, riding with a permit. By the end of the week, he had his motorcycle endorsement. Dad, "what should I use to polish it with?" Mom, "do you have some soft rags I can use?" Dad, "what do you think if I have the seat covered with ostrich leather?" "What tire would you put on the back?"
I love the excitement in his voice, love the fact that he saved his money and was able to pay cash for his bike, and love the fact that we all have bikes now! I am not sure where we are going on our first family ride. There are a lot of beautiful places in Idaho, but we will probably let Ben make that choice.

| Air Anyone? - 8/27/2008 - Back to Top |
| Our son, Adam (20), had been pretty down lately, he had gotten his hours switched at work to Mon-Fri 5pm to 1:30am. He is not much of a night owl, and was feeling that he is missing his friends and fun stuff. My wife asked him if he wanted to take a road trip, and gave him two options. First option, 3 hours north to a town in the mountains, or 3 hours east to Pocatello to visit grandpa. He chose grandpa. We were glad he chose grandpa, but it was 3 hours across southern Idaho. For those of you that don't know southern Idaho, it is desert. We got a late start Saturday morning, just couldn't get that kid up! Finally left town at 11:00. My wife and I were on our Harley and Adam was on his GSXR. Our trip was pretty uneventful, we did get a chance to stop and look at the Malad George. We had driven by it at least 50 times, and never took the time to stop. We had a wonderful time with dad and the wicked-step-mom. It was short, but as always, a needed visit. Sunday afternoon - time to go (we watched to much Olympics and spent to much time just talking to dad and w-s-m). It was 2:00, and we knew that the temperature was rising on the thermometer. It was forecasted to be 104 degrees today. Kisses and hugs, and then climb on the bikes and off we go. The interstate was pretty quiet as we left Pocatello, which is always quite nice. Well, we were about 45 minutes into the drive home, when I noticed that the front of my bike was making a loud clicking noise. I pulled off at the next exit, and my bike started shimmying and shaking. I wasn't quite sure if I was going to get the bike stopped. Yes, I did panic for a bit (basically because I had my wife on the back). After stopping, I realized that I had a flat front tire. The brake caliper had sheered off the end of my valve stem. I jumped on my son's bike to find a parts store. I picked up a valve stem and a can of canned air. Adam and I thought we could replace the valve stem and air up the tire. Well~replacing the valve stem went way to easy, so I knew something had to go wrong, and it did. The canned air was not enough pressure to air up the tire. We had now been on the side of the road for about 2 hours, with abut 200-250 cars driving by, and nobody stopping. We were weighing out all the possibilities, trying to decide what to do. Then, we noticed a nice gentleman walking up the off-ramp to ask us if we needed some help. Boy, were we happy to see him. He offered to us a compressor that he could go home and get to air up the tire. We took him up on his offer. We waited about an hour. Thank goodness my wife had packed some water and granola bars - it was really hot! About an hour later he returned with the compressor and a floor jack. We were able to get the tire aired, paid him for his gas, thanked him and off we were. Our initial plans were to take the scenic route home, following the Snake River, but since it was so late, we decided to take the interstate back. Thank goodness, no more problems home. As my wife told her co-workers (who are not bike riders), they were amazed that we didn't have a spare tire on us. Well, what a trip, but that is what makes them memorable, right? |

| New Adventure - 6/25/2008 - Back to Top |
| Wow - it has been an adventure! I had been drooling over bikes on e-bay for about 3 months, and finally found a FLH in Texas. I think my wife was tired of listening to me wine over all the bikes for sale, and finally let me buy one. She knew that I had to much time on my hands, as I had just sold our retail accessory store (mainly dirtbike and snowmobile apparel), so she bought me a one way ticket to Texas to pick up the new bike. She told me to take my time coming back ( I think she wanted to get rid of me for a while)! What an awesome adventure I had, driving from Texas to Idaho ~ no schedules ~ no wife and kids ~ not a care in the world for the next 10 days. I was able to see some beautiful country, and stop and visit friends and family along the way. After I had been home for a few weeks, and was searching for the apparel that my wife and I needed for our new purchase, I noticed that I was missing the motorcycle business. That is when it occurred to me to find some motorcycle apparel, build a website, and start offering to other riders quality gear at a reasonable price. We have some great prices on mens motorcycle jackets and womens motorcycle jackets. I think I am going to enjoy my new adventure! |
